Laws of the Three Weeks

July 14, 2025

The Three Weeks lasts from the fast on the 17th of Tammuz (Shiva Asar B'Tammuz) and end on the end of the 9th day of Av (The fast of Tisha B'Av).

The mourning is divided into four levels of increasing severity:

  1. From 17 Tammuz until the end of Tammuz (July 13 to Evening of July 25)

  2. From Rosh Ḥodesh Av until the week that contains the 9th of Av (Evening of July 25 to evening of August 2)

  3. The week where the 9th of Av falls (Evening of August 2 to evening of August 2)

  4. The 9th of Av itself (evening of August 2 to the night fall of August 3)

This chart shows you what is permitted and what is prohibited for Sepharadim during that particular time period of the three weeks.
